Scripture…Practical help for daily success

Family Foundations

The Family Foundations ministry is designed to encourage parents and children in the Scriptural philosophy, commitments and practical applications of building a Christ centered and honoring family.

There are 31 daily encouragements and various projects to encourage you along the journey as a family. It is best to take one encouragement a day and apply that one. Then move on to the next and attempt to put all of these into practice. Click on the link on the top of the box to read the full days journey as well as listen to the sound bite that goes with that day’s lesson.

God will give you additional insights and encouragements as you apply these. God bless you as you do.

Day 1 – Building a Family

To build or rebuild a life, family, church, country, or anything else worthwhile, you need to look at the plan of how to build successfully.

Day 4 – The Basics – You can build or rebuild a family by getting back to the basic parts. One day I transported a china cabinet in the back of my truck without tying it down.

Day 7 – Feed – Feed the Family. To build strength in your body you must get nourishment. Food is required for growth. It is the same spiritually, if you want to grow, you must feed upon God’s word.
Day 10 – Applying Truth – Truth out of balance leads to heresy. Therefore rightly applying the word of truth is fundamental to building a family.
Day 13 – Sharing – Now the kind of sharing I am referring to is not sharing your toys, even though this is important to learn. I am talking about teaching each family member to share Christ with others.
Day 16 – Finances – The family is a basic financial unit of society. Each family member needs to learn the life skill of how to handle resources. Each family member needs to learn to live within their means.
Day 19 – Hope – Hope is one of the most important things that a person can have. Ultimately, a person who has lasting hope must have his hope built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness.
Day 22 – Heart – It all starts in the heart. The heart is where you decide if you will love, forgive, and serve. Scripture tells us to keep our hearts with all diligence for out of it are the issues of life.
Day 25 – Play Together – The music you expose your children to is so important. Children have a tendency to become interested in what they are exposed to. Make sure to expose them to music that is melodious.
Day 28 – Abba Father – The reason our churches are weak is because our families are weak. The reason our families are weak is because our fathers are weak. The reason our fathers are weak is because they are not following their Heavenly Father.
Day 31 – Salvation -The most important thing in life is where you will spend eternity. This fact makes the decision about salvation the greatest one in your life.

Day 2 – Faith – Not only do we need to get back to the Bible for our pattern on how to build a family, we need to get back to the basic foundational truths. One of these truths is faith.

Day 5 – Work – Work is a part of God’s plan. Even before the fall, Adam and Eve “kept” the garden. God has always wanted us to work. After six days of creation, God Himself rested from His labors.

Day 8 – Prayer – Family prayer time is vital to building a family. Perhaps you have heard the old saying “The family that prays together, stays together.” This principle is so true.

Day 11 – Success -What is success? Well, if you want a successful family you must know the answer. True success is knowing and doing the will of God.

Day 14 – Family Counsel – A father is assigned the responsibility of making decisions in accord with the Scripture. There are times, however when it is appropriate to include the family and get “family counsel” about decisions.

Day 17 – Treasures – Each family should be able to pass on God’s work in their lives to the next generation. Yet, family heirlooms and treasures are worthwhile to pass down as well.

Day 20 – Overcomers – God promises rewards for the person who overcomes the world, the flesh, and the devil. Each family member should learn how to overcome temptation, not submit to it.

Day 23 – Purity – The root of so many family breakups is a lack of moral purity, especially on the part of the man. The iniquity of moral impurity negatively affects the family.
Day 26 – “It’s your night” – As a person looks back on the memories of their growing up years, there is no reason their family can’t be a museum of good memories.”

Day 29 – Wisdom – Proverbs 24:3 says, “Through wisdom is an house builded; and by understanding it is established:” This principle of building on wisdom will work.
Day 3 – Character – What causes a family to fall? The thing that causes a house to fall is the same thing that can cause a home to fall; compromise.

Day 6 – Dying – The secret to true living is dying. This secret principle is known as “dying to self”. If you learn to die to self, you can learn to live to Christ.
Day 9 – The Holy Spirit – To build a family you need to be guided by the precious Holy Spirit. Though the answer to every problem is found in the Bible by direct wording, precept, or principle, you will encounter problems and situations that are not directly spelled out in Scripture.
Day 12 – Purpose -Help motivate each family member by teaching them purpose in life. This answers a universal question, “What am I here for?” Teach them the answer, “The chief end of man is to glory God and enjoy Him forever.”
Day 15 – Teach – According to Deuteronomy 6:7, you are to teach your children the word of God. You are to teach God’s word to your children and children’s children.
Day 18 – Special Occasions – Families should make a big deal of special occasions, birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, and the like. We tried to make a big deal out of each family member’s birthday, and somehow had a way of making birthdays stretch out over several days.
Day 21 – Love – The greatest of all things that should be in a family is genuine love. There are many reasons for this. One is that the family is a picture of Christ and the church.
Day 24 – Christ and the Church – The psalmist David prayed “…that our sons may be as plants grown up in their youth; that our daughters may be as cornerstones, polished after the similitude of a palace:” (See Psalm 144:12)
Day 27 – Friends – Friends are so important for families; and it is so important to choose your friends wisely. The Bible makes it clear that “he that walketh with wise men shall be wise, but a companion of fools will be destroyed.”
Day 30 – Model – You have heard that character is more caught than taught; but it must be taught. The same is true with a family.
